When Can a Woman Not Get Pregnant

When Can a Woman Not Get Pregnant?

when can a woman not get pregnant: Okay, so you’re ready to settle down and start a family. Fantastic. Having children is one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences you could ever imagine, and while it is of course testing, both physically and mentally, the pros outweigh the cons by a country mile.

On the TV and in movies, starting a family is a piece of cake. In the real world however, it can be decidedly tougher, as getting pregnant is certainly not easy. In fact, for some women, and some couples in general, it’s very difficult indeed.

But when can a woman not get pregnant? If you’re thinking of starting a family, or are perhaps trying to start a family but are struggling to conceive, this could be down to a number of different variables.

Here’s a look at when can a woman not get pregnant and at what you could do to help increase your chances of conceiving.

When she’s on her period

Okay, please do not take this too literally because having sexual intercourse while on your period could still potentially lead to conception, it’s just that it reduces the chances.

You see, when a woman is on her period, the egg which was growing within her ovaries obviously wasn’t fertilized and so this results in the shedding of the uterine lining, as it prepares to grow new eggs for the next cycle.

Basically, the egg which had the potential to be fertilized to become a child has now been used and has been discarded, so obviously if there is no egg available, there can be nothing to fertilize.

If they’re using the ‘withdrawal’ method

Again, in terms of when can a woman not get pregnant, this next technique is by no means guaranteed to prevent pregnancy, but it does of course certainly reduce the chances of conception.

The ‘withdrawal method’ or the ‘pull out method’ as it is sometimes called, basically involves the male removing or ‘withdrawing’ his penis from his partner before he ejaculates. You don’t need to be an expert in biology to understand why that reduces the chances of conceiving.

Needless to say, if you are looking to conceive, the withdrawal method is not the way to go about it.

When they’re breastfeeding

If a woman is breastfeeding, she’s highly unlikely to become pregnant again. This is because breastfeeding suppresses Estrogen.

Estrogen is the dominant female sexual health hormone and is responsible for a woman getting her period each month.

On top of that, a hormone responsible for the stimulation of breast milk production known as prolactin can also prevent ovulation. Prolactin inhibits the follicle-stimulating hormone, or FSH, which causes the ovaries to produce eggs and grow in size.

Is she’s aged 44 or older

In terms of when can a woman not get pregnant, the older she gets the far greater her chances of falling pregnant become.

Biologically speaking, women are born with between 1 and 2 million eggs. By the time they reach their late 30s, this number is down to roughly 25,000.

By the time a woman reaches 44 years of age, her chances of falling pregnant are slim, as fertility can decrease by as much as 95%. Does this mean women aged 44 can never get pregnant? Of course not, it’s just that statistically it is highly unlikely.
