Are cot sheets a standard size?
One of the biggest questions around bedding new parents ask, is around the size of cot sheets. Thankfully it’s not as complex as you can imagine, with most Australia and U.S. cot manufacturers adhere to an agree to a standard size (give or take a few centimetres). For safety, cots must meet the Australian standard AS/NZS 2172:2003.
How many cot sheets do I need?
The rule of thumb is that you need a minimum of 3 fitted cot sheets; one on the cot, one in the wash, and another in the draw. When you think about the things that can happen, nappy leakage, vomiting, or even sweating in summer, it’s helpful to have some extras so you never get stuck.
Should I use a flat sheet?
When buying cot sheets, some will come in sets that also have flat sheets. Generally, flat sheets are unecessary and can actually be dangerous. They should only be used when they are tucked in firmly so that baby can’t pull them up, and become tangled. For safety it’s best to not use a flat sheet.
